  19. 1) Have you checked the manual of your IDE card? 
  20. 2) Does it say that it supports FAST serial. 
  21. 3) Does it say that it has the 16550 Chip for serial comm?
  22. 4) If you look at the card, do you see the numbers 8250 or 16C550?

  24. You may have bought an IDE card with the 8250 UART and not the fast
  25. serial chip 16C550.
